Senator Merkley recently came out in public opposition to the toxic Jordan Cove Fracked Gas Export Pipeline.

If ever built, it would tear across local forests, rivers, and private property only to become the biggest source of climate change emissions in the whole State of Oregon. This continues to be the wrong project in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Please thank Senator Merkley for taking a strong stand against Jordan Cove.

Senator Merkley has been a champion on behalf of clean water and we need him to stand strong in defense of the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument

Senator Merkley’s continued support for the rivers and forests of southwest Oregon will be integral in the months and years to come during the Trump regime. Illegal attacks from our current administration require a strong stance from our local politicians for public land protections.

Please thank Senator him for his continued support of the Kalmiopsis region from the threat of nickel strip mining and the defense of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.

Smoke from wildfires in Southern Oregon was a big problem last summer. But more commercial logging of big trees and old forests is not the answer.

In fact, more logging will increase smoke in the valley. Research shows that logging big trees and old forests in Southern Oregon increases fire hazards. Dense fiber plantations burn hotter than intact forests therefore increasing fire risk.

Please ask Senator Merkley to call on the BLM and Forest Service to stop proposing detrimental post fire projects that log big trees and old forests and instead stick to thinning projects near communities and in even-age plantations. More Information on Fires and Forest on the back!

The Medford BLM continues to ignore communities near logging projects it proposes.

Concerns like clean water, reduced fire risk, truck traffic, and impacts to wildlife are ignored in favor of giving more of our public lands forests to the logging industry. Local communities in Josephine County rallied to oppose the Pickett West timber sale and the BLM canceled it. Then it quickly proposed the eerily similar Clean Slate timber sale near Selma.

Please ask Senator Merkley to call on the BLM to sit down with community representatives in a mediated negotiation to assure that timber sales will not cause undue impacts to local water or wildlife and will not significantly increase fire danger or more dangerous road conditions.
